Privacy policy

Last updated: 25 October 2026

This policy explains how Digging Bits (ABN 23 157 760 793) collects, uses, holds and discloses your personal information when you visit diggingbits.com.au, buy from us, or contact us by phone, email, chat or eBay. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988.

1. What we collect

  • Contact and delivery details: your name, email address, phone number, billing and delivery address, and the name and mobile number of anyone collecting your order.
  • Order details: what you buy, your machine make and model and the other fitment details you give us, your freight choice, past orders, and any return or warranty claim.
  • Payment details: your payment method and payment confirmation. Card payments are processed by Shopify Payments, and PayPal payments by PayPal. We never see or store your full card number.
  • Communications: your emails, chat messages, eBay messages, phone calls and voicemails. We may record phone calls and voicemails so we have an accurate record of what you've asked for.
  • Account details: if you create a customer account, your sign-in email and account settings.
  • Website and device information: your IP address, browser and device, the pages you view, and how you found us. This is collected through cookies and similar tools from Shopify and Google.

We don't ask for sensitive information, such as health information, and ask that you don't send it to us.

2. How we collect it

  • From you: when you order, email, call, chat, fill in a form or message us on eBay.
  • Automatically: through cookies when you use our website. You can block cookies in your browser, but checkout may not work without them.
  • From others: from Shopify, payment providers and freight carriers, for example payment confirmation and delivery status.

You can browse our website and ask general questions without telling us who you are. To place an order, we need your name and your contact and delivery details.

3. How we use it

  • To process, fulfil and deliver your order, including checking fitment, quoting freight, arranging pickup or delivery, and handling returns, refunds and warranty claims.
  • To answer your questions and keep you updated on your order.
  • To take payment, prevent fraud and keep our website secure.
  • To keep the records the law requires, such as tax records.
  • To improve our website, products and service, including how people find and use our website.
  • To send you news and new products by email, if you've signed up. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.
  • To show you our ads on other websites, such as Google, based on your visits to our website. You can turn off personalised ads in your Google account settings.

4. Who we share it with

Only what each needs:

  • The manufacturer that makes and ships your order, and the freight carrier that delivers it: your name, phone number, delivery address and order details.
  • Shopify, which runs our online store, checkout, customer accounts and chat.
  • Payment providers: Shopify Payments and PayPal.
  • Service providers that help us run the business: email and file storage, website analytics, call recording and transcription, and AI tools that help us manage enquiries and orders. They may use your information only to provide their service to us.
  • Our accountant and professional advisers, when needed.
  • Government agencies or law enforcement, when the law requires it.
  • A buyer of our business, if it's ever sold. They would have to handle your information in line with this policy.

We don't sell your personal information.

5. Relationship with Shopify

The Services are hosted by Shopify, which collects and processes personal information about your access to and use of the Services in order to provide and improve the Services for you. Information you submit to the Services will be transmitted to and shared with Shopify as well as third parties that may be located in countries other than where you reside, in order to provide and improve the Services for you. In addition, to help protect, grow, and improve our business, we use certain Shopify enhanced features that incorporate data and information obtained from your interactions with our Store, along with other merchants and with Shopify. To provide these enhanced features, Shopify may make use of personal information collected about your interactions with our store, along with other merchants, and with Shopify. In these circumstances, Shopify is responsible for the processing of your personal information, including for responding to your requests to exercise your rights over use of your personal information for these purposes. We also use Shopify to support personalised advertising with third-party services based on your online activity with different merchants and websites. To learn more about how Shopify uses your personal information, or to opt out of personalised advertising, visit the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy or the Shopify Privacy Portal.

6. AI-assisted chat

The chat on our online store is powered by Shopify and may be answered by an AI assistant. When you use it, Shopify processes your personal information, including your chat messages, to generate responses and to improve the chat service. Please don't share card numbers or other sensitive details in chat. If you'd rather talk to a person, call 0434 721 356 or email sales@diggingbits.com.au.

7. Information sent overseas

Some of our service providers store or process information outside Australia, mainly in Canada and the United States, and in other countries where they operate. They include Shopify, PayPal, Google, and our call recording, transcription and AI tools. We use established providers that have their own privacy and security commitments.

8. How we store and protect it

  • Your information is held in Shopify, in our business email and file storage, and in our order records. Only the people who run Digging Bits can access it.
  • We take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, change or disclosure. No system is completely secure, so please don't send card details or passwords by email or chat.
  • We keep order and payment records for at least 5 years, because tax law requires it. We delete or de-identify other information once we no longer need it.
  • If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you as soon as we can, and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) where the law requires.

9. Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, at any time. It's free to ask. We'll need to confirm who you are, and we'll respond within 30 days. If we can't give you access or make a correction, we'll tell you why in writing and how to complain. You can also ask us to delete your information. We will, unless the law requires us to keep it, such as tax records.

10. Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your personal information, email sales@diggingbits.com.au or call 0434 721 356. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 5 business days and aim to resolve it within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

11. Automated decisions

We don't use computer programs to make decisions about you, without a person involved, that significantly affect you. Shopify runs automatic fraud checks on orders. If an order is flagged, a person at Digging Bits reviews it before anything happens.

12. Children

Our website isn't intended for children, and we don't knowingly collect information about children. If you think a child has given us their information, contact us and we'll delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the law or the way we work changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
